Selenite & Satin Spar / Gypsum Crystals

–Informative–

Selenite and Satin Spar are gypsum-based minerals and have a similar chemical composition, hydrated calcium sulfate. Most gypsum forms from the evaporation of salt waters. It may recrystallize in veins, forming Satin Spar, which is fibrous with a silky-transparent appearance. Selenite typically consists of colorless, transparent, elongated crystals but may be milky, yellow-white, gray, beige, or orange-colored.

–Interesting–

Though sometimes grouped together as “selenite”, three common crystalline varieties include:

  • Evaporite Selenite
  • Satin Spar
  • Desert/Gypsum Rose

Selenite crystals are commonly found as entire free-floating crystals, often in shale beds. Satin Spar are commonly found in seams, some of them quite long, and is often attached to a matrix or base rock, such as in the Cave of Swords in Mexico. Selenite and other gypsum flowers form quite densely in needle-like mats or nets and can be quite brittle and fragile.

–Metaphysical–

Selenite and Satin Spar can be useful for cleansing auric fields and clearing negative energy from one’s physical and etheric bodies quickly.

This mineral can lift one’s awareness to higher planes and help invoke a spiritual connection.

Can activate the Third Eye and Crown chakras and can be immensely useful for cleansing other crystals and creating energy grids.
